1996 spring renewable energy education program includes popular solar cooking class

solar energy international has scheduled a new series of spring workshops to be held in tucson, arizona. throughout the months of february and march, sei will take advantage of the desert's warm and sunny weather to offer workshops on solar water pumping, solar cooking, passive solar, photovoltaic design and installation, and advanced photovotltaics.

the solar cooking workshop offered in colorado by sei has gained in popularity the last couple of summers with representatives of various non-governmental organizations from around the world in attendance. the summer courses have been taught by bob larson -- a member of the board of directors for solar cookers international. solar energy international has not announced the instructors for the tucson workshop as of yet.

the instruction, however, remains the same. attendees will spend a day in the classroom learning the social implications of solar cooking, the advantages of each of the many various designs, the science principles involved, and how to use a solar cooker. each attendee will also be taught how to build their own solar cooker in the hands-on portion of the workshop that concludes with each participant constructing their own solar cooker to take with them when they leave.

although the main focus of the solar cooker workshop is for people wanting to work in developing countries, anybody can register and attend.

the spring schedule is:

solar water pumping feb. 5-8

solar cooking feb. 9-11

passive solar feb. 12-24

pv design & installation mar. 4-15

advanced pv mar. 18-29

these workshops, ranging in length from a few days to two weeks, are geared toward the owner-builder, people seeking careers as solar professionals, and people wanting to work in developing countries. the workshops may be taken as part of a comprehensive program as well as taken individually.

sei is a non-profit (501 (c) 3) educational organization whose mission is to encourage the practical use of renewable energies through education and technical assistance.
