Greetings. I'm a new member to this forum and a first time contributer to solarcooking.wikia.com. I have been cooking out of a homemade oven than can be seen here. http://solarcooking.wikia.com/wiki/Sol_Cooker

I welcome comments, questions and criticisms.

Terry

Welcome, Terry. Nice cooker... nice looking and effective, too. Perfect for dishing out sol food.Wink Always nice to see another northern cooker show up in town.Smile I hope you'll stick around. This could be a great discussion forum if it were better populated.

Thanks SharonID. I have supplied meals to family, friends and neighbors and the response is always the same, absolute amazement. I have not met many individuals that have even heard of such devices. It's good to be on the fringe Confused

This is my second season of cooking with sunshine more than not (when it is out), and I'm still amazed! It is so cool (in a warm kind of way) that this works and that there are so many ways to do it! Cool I love serving solar cooked foods to amazed people. Meat especially amazes them, though it's not any harder to cook a piece of meat than it is to cook potatoes or carrots (you have to pay a little more attention to food safety, but it's not any harder).

On a recent short trip to a hot springs resort (mmmmmm), I took one of my little folding EZ-Baker solar ovens (page coming to wiki soon) and ran it out in the sun with a teakettle in it. Just about everyone who walked by when I was outside the cabin wanted to talk about it and went away with some of my solar cooking handouts. Some people didn't really know about solar cooking while others assumed it was technically complicated. Either way they're amazed to see this simple cut-out part-of-a-box out there heating water for tea, and even more amazed to hear that I'd cooked a small pot-roast in that same cooker the week before.

Solar cooking in public or on vacation is a great way to meet people! What a "conversation piece"!Very Happy

Regards,
SharonID
